CAEE—Chinese Association of Earthquake Engineering

The Chinese Association of Earthquake Engineering (CAEE) was founded in 1984 by the Seismological Society of China's Earthquake Engineering Professional Committee and the Architectural Society of China's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Branch. The CAEE aims to unite earthquake engineering resources across the country to participate in international activities. In addition, it seeks to strengthen and promote international cooperation. As a representative of the Chinese earthquake engineering community, CAEE applied to join the International Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE) in 1984 with the approval of the State Science and Technology Commission and the China Association for Science and Technology. The CAEE was admitted to the IAEE in 1985. In 1988, XIE Lili, Emeritus Director of the IEM, was elected Executive Director of the International Association for Earthquake Engineering at the 9th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering in Tokyo, Japan. He was the first Chinese scientist to be selected by the highest academic organization for international earthquake engineering.

In 2008, CAEE hosted the 14th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (WCEE).
